The Things They Carried is a powerful stage adaptation of Tim O’Brien’s personal journey from his innocent youth in a small Southwestern Minnesota town to the jungles of Vietnam as a young soldier and back home again. The Things They Carried premiered at The History Theater, St. Paul, MN. March 15 th , 2014. The History Theater toured the play in Minnesota and Wisconsin in November 2014. “Superb!” Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Jim Stowell directed the play at The Lied Center in Lincoln, NE. Opening November 5 th , 2015. The play opened at The Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, FL on March 24 th , 2018. “Necessary.” Sarasota Herald-Tribune, “Truthful, gripping and gutsy.” The Observer. The previous productions have proven this story transcends Vietnam and speaks to the veterans and the families from today’s wars. Tim O’Brien grew up in Worthington, MN. The “Turkey Capitol of the World.” When he was a boy Tim performed magic shows in his backyard for the neighborhood kids. He was drafted in 1968 and assigned to 3 rd  Platoon, A Company, 5 th  Battalion as a foot soldier. Tim is now a visiting professor and endowed chair at Southwest Texas State University.
